Targeted Outreach Officer


Summary of Duties

This individual will have primary responsibility for coordinating outreach activities for the Transgender (TG) populations. He/ She will also be responsible for providing information on sexual reproductive health (SRH) and STI/HIV prevention care to members of the identified minority. The Targeted Outreach Officer also assists to develop and implement creative, caring interventions with the targeted group.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five (5) “O” Levels/CXC

 

Experience

  • At least two (2) years work experience in a similar position working with the targeted community

 

Specific Duties

  • Work in conjunction with the Project Officer to plan, coordinate and execute programme activities to provide outreach SRH education to TG persons.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with members of the targeted group through street/site visits, encourages and recruits members to participate in different programme activities.
  • Developing strategies to reach and test members of the TG community
  •  Ensuring timely and quality execution of TG-focused outputs
  • Provides members of the targeted groups with up-to-date information on HIV/AIDS/STIs and related issues through one-on-one contact or group discussion or activities.
  • Ensuring the linkage of TG clients to various JASL’s services
  • Refer TG persons to JASL for voluntary counselling and testing for HIV.
  • Distribute condoms and information/educational material to TG persons.
  • Assists members of the targeted group in assessing their sexual behaviours and relative levels of risk to HIV/STI infections.
  • Keep current about trends and changes relating to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care.
  • Provides basic counselling and guidance regarding sexual behaviours and practices.
  • Attends weekly/monthly meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Deliverables

  • Monthly and quarterly Progress Reports for the contract period by the 5th of the following month.
  • Work plan of activities and interventions for specified target group.
  • At least two weekly outreach activities (education/counselling) for the target population
